Robusta Coffee is also called Coffea canephora in Africa and Café’Conillon in Brazil.
Robusta coffee is a species of coffee plant which originated in western part of Africa.
It is easier to care for than any other species of coffee. Robusta beans were not considered coffee until the late 1800s which is about 100 years ago. The Robusta tree has a greater crop yield than Arabica coffee shrub and is less susceptible to agricultural diseases, hence it is easier and cheaper to produce. Robusta coffee tends to have bitter taste and fewer flavors than Arabica coffee. It contains 40 to 50 percent more caffeine than Arabica. For this reason, Robusta coffee is used as filler and as an inexpensive coffee substitute for Arabica in commercial coffee blends.
